    Married 1 Feb 1862
    • The wedding took place in her father's, Elijah Simpson's home. Lewis's uncle, Enoch Williams, Esqr. performed the ceremony. Since Enoch Williams was married to a Miss Helms, he was already related through marriage to Permelia, whose mother was Tabitha Helms. Lewis's cousin, Caswell Helms, son of Rhoda Williams and Mr. Helms, served as their witness. - -These notes come from the original marriage pages of the L.D.H. Williams family Bible brought to Arkansas from North Carolina in 1899 by Elijah Alexander Williams and his wife Hester Lucinda Helms, now in possession of Charles Withrow Williams, Nashville, Arkansas. This is a large, old Bible. It has a tooled black leather cover and many lovely engraved pictures of Biblical scenes. Unfortunately, during the trip from North Carolina to Arkansas, the Bible suffered damage and it is falling apart at the seams. The high acid quality paper used at the time of its manufacture make it impossible to rebind, but the family record pages are still readable, a wonderful record of this Baptist family.
