  Notes	From Clevelamd Gardner's notes: Thomas Gardner like many others in Cleveland County enlisted in the Confererate Army at the beginning of the Civil War. He was wounded at the battle of Sharpsburg and his injury was serious enough that he had to return home for a time to recover. Once strong again he returned to his company. He was seen to fall of a wound at the battle at Gettysburg. He was never seen or heard from since. After first considered wounded and missing he was later declared killed in action. He was probably burried in a mass grave there.
